Saturday, September 30th,  12:30pm on the Fountain Stage

EMP Sound Off! winner Otieno Terry creates soulful music with an unexpectedly powerful message. A poet, pianist, singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Terry crafts songs with melodies and harmonies that don’t resonate as typical R&B. His introspective pieces are part hip hop, part crooning, and part slam poetry accompanied by music. His depth of musical range is expansive, and he is sure to take you on a journey.

Bumbershoot Chronicles 2014: Youngblood Hawke

Saturday, September 30th,  1:45pm on the End Zone Stage

Inspired by the Herman Wouk novel of the same name, Youngblood Hawke was born out of late night creative musings between longtime friends Sam Martin and Simon Katz. Exhausted by two years of touring with their former band Iglu & Hartly and the general turbulence that comes with music industry success, they looked for a more simple creative outlet where they could write and share music with friends and family without commercial pressures. With elements of pop, rock, indie, dance, and even a little hip hop, Youngblood Hawke creates music about being hopeful and never giving up.  Their latest LP ‘Wake Up’ released in 2013

Bumbershoot Chronicles 2014: Fly Moon Royalty

Saturday, September 30th,  11:45pm on the Fisher Green Stage
Saw this band last year at Capitol Hill Block Party.  Such an amazing group and a fantastic way to kick of Bumbershoot!

The combination that makes up Electro-Soul duo Fly Moon Royalty is Vocalist/ Fast Talker Adra Boo and DJ/Producer/Emcee Action Jackson. Adra, a Seattle native and sophisticated songstress, whose inspiration is drawn from everyday life, has been blazing trails in the theater and burlesque community, and is building her name as a one of a kind host for special events. Jackson, who re-located to Seattle from Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2009, is the musician’s musician in every sense of the phrase. He credits great artists such as Danny Elfman, DJ Premier and Stevie Wonder as some of his biggest influences and inspirations; he also continues to make his mark on the radar as a DJ in the Seattle area.

The duo formed in the winter of 2010 under the name Sugar Water Purple, but soon disbanded the moniker after discovering another group with the same name already existed, thus birthing Fly Moon Royalty. Their style remains soulful, but at the same time experiments with electronic textures, which makes up the backbone of their sound. Your ear is immediately keen to their influences drawn from the golden era of Hip Hop as well as a deep feel of 60’s influenced jazz and soul sounds, all of these are key elements that create the rebel dance music that is Fly Moon Royalty. Their sound touches upon familiarity, but it’s not approached in any traditional manner. Fly Moon Royalty has been compared to the Gossip, Janalle Monae and Gnarls Barkly.

After recording their self- titled debut project and releasing it independently in early 2011, Fly Moon Royalty caught the ear of DeVon Manier, President of Seattle based indie Hip Hop label Sportn’ Life Records. The two entities partnered and re-released the album as a joint effort.  In 2012 they came out with their Dimensions EP.

On February 18th, 2014 they released their Unfinished Business EP

CHBP 2014 Chronicles: Natasha Kmeto

Saturday, July 26th.  9pm. Neumos State

Natasha Kmeto grew up in Sacramento, CA. Both of her parents are musicians, and there was always music on in the house. Motown, funk, jazz, latin jazz, pop, classic rock… she sang along and absorbed everything. Her dad started her on piano and guitar when she was very young, and at 15 she joined her parent’s cover band and started gigging around Sacramento. She devoured her older brother’s prodigious hip-hop collection, and together they discovered electronic music.

CHBP 2014 Chronicles: The Dip

Saturday, July 26th.  4pm. Neumos State

The Dip formed in 2012 to provide a much needed dose of authentic soul and funk to the local university house party scene. After many sweaty nights of endless booty shakin’, police head achin’, and even some barbeque makin’, The Dip decided that it was time to serve up their tasty blend of Premium Northwest Soul to a stage near you. Accompanied by their always crunchy and a little bit sweet horn section, the Honeynut Horns, The Dip knows just how to get that groove groovin’ and that booty movin’. Having previously performed at Summer Meltdown, Northwest Folklife, Western Washington’s Lawnstock, and opening slots for The California Honey Drops and Ayron Jones and the Way, The Dip are primed for a busy summer that also includes recording their new full length album. Their debut EP, Premium Northwest Soul is out now! [Taken from CHBP site]

CHBP 2014 Chronicles: Tennis Pro

Friday, July 25th. 4.30pm. Nemous Stage

Tennis Pro has been playing and recording since 2003. Tennis Pro is from Seattle, but don’t let the gray clouds and sad, bearded indie-rock populous fool you. Tennis Pro likes to have a good time when they play, and they wish to extend that feeling on to you. Tennis Pro doesn’t wear beards. Sometimes Tennis Pro wears beards, but in a totally ironic way.
